Dr. Joseph Talia OAM, Artistic Director


 

Joseph Talia studied in Melbourne as a scholarship student at the National Theatre Opera School. He was a "Showcase" artist and finalist in many major competitions, including being runner-up in the Victorian Metropolitan Opera Auditions in 1974. He later studied in Milan and was engaged to sing Rodolfo in La Boheme and Alfredo in La Traviata at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome. He gave concerts in Milan and other major cities. He has sung more than 30 principal roles alongside some of Australia's most beloved artists. His repertoire ranges from Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni, through to Britten, Menotti, Verdi, Puccini, and Mascagni. Dr. Talia founded the Melbourne-based Globe Opera in 1978, and is the founder and managing director of Melbourne City Opera. In 2007 Dr Talia was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his dedicated services to the arts over four decades.
