Laurence Meikle
After performing in musical theatre and drama throughout his childhood, Laurence made his operatic debut as Il Carceriere in a concert production of Tosca at age 16. Since then he has performed in Amahal and the Night Visitors (King Melchior), Cavalleria Rusticana, Gianni Schicchi (Pinellino), and Tosca (Angelotti).
Laurence has appeared as a chorister and soloist at the Melbourne Concert Hall, Melba Hall, Melbourne Town Hall, Daylesford Festival and Opera in the Market, singing works such as Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem. In 2000, he also sung Verdi’s Sacred Songs at the St. Alban’s Festival with the London Gala Orchestra conducted by Sir Charles Farncombe.
Laurence was recently awarded a scholarship by BMW, enabling further language study in Germany. Other recent engagements have been Independent Classics’ launch of The Saint of Bleecker Street; La Serva Padrona (Vespone) and The Telephone (Ben) for Macedon Music, which he reprised at Chapel off Chapel.
