Lucio Coceani was born in Italy and migrated to Australia at the end of 1960.

He started singing studies in 1968. At that time he spent a season with the Victorian Opera Company doing chorus work. Lucio made his formal principal debut in 1971 in the role of El Dencairo in a staging of Bizet's Carmen, mounted by the Opera Guild.

Lucio took part in the first performance of Globe Opera in 1978. In that performance he peformed the role of Mr. Ford in Otto Nicolai's Merry Wives of Windsor. Lucio has also performed the role of Schaunard and Marcello in La Bohéme.

In 1997 Lucio was invited by the director of MCO, Dr Joseph Talia, OAM. to join its growing ranks as resident bass/baritone.

So far he has performed these roles with Melbourne City Opera :-

CoIline in La Bohéme. Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana. Dulcamara in Elisir d'Amore, Sam in Un Ballo in Maschera. Leporello in Don Giovanni, Zuniga in Carmen. Falstaff and Pistola in Falstaff. Ferrando in Trovatore, Gianni Schicchi in Puccini's work of the same name. the Sacristan in Tosca and Giovanni and Seid in the Australian premier of Verdi's II Corsaro. Earlier this year Lucio performed the role of Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Ezio in Attila.
