Born in Salisbury, England, Jerzy studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music in London. Since his arrival in Australia in 1979, he has sung solo with all the major Melbourne choral groups in repertoire ranging from Handel’s Messiah to Verdi’s Requiem.
He joined the Victoria State Opera chorus in 1981 and performed regularly with the company. He has also performed in each of the recent Opera Australia Melbourne seasons including the roles of the Innkeeper and Naval Captain in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, the Servant in La Traviata and the Mayor in Janacek’s Jenufa. Other operatic roles include Uberto in La Serva Padrona, Alvise in La Gioconda, Dulcamara in The Elixir of Love, Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutte, and Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro. He also sang the role of Dr Bartolo in several performances of OzOpera’s touring production of Barber of Seville.
Recent concert engagements include the Australian premiere of George Crumb’s Songs, Drones and Refrains of Death and Schoenberg’s Serenade with Libra Ensemble. He is also a member of Melbourne’s foremost early music ensemble, Acord and enjoys arranging and performing music from the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
