Matthew Henrick studied in Adelaide, Brisbane and London. Operatic roles he performed during his studies included Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Don Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte), Malatesta (Don Pasquale) and Mr Noah (Noye's Fludde). Matthew was a member of the Lyric Opera of Queensland's Young Artist Programme and subsequently performed the roles of Fiorello & Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Guglielmo (Cosi fan Tutte), Papageno (The Magic Flute) and Dancairo (Carmen) for that company. He has performed Schaunard ( La Boheme) and Malatesta for the State Opera of South Australia and for STOPERA A.C.T he performed the King in Handel's Ariodante for the Canberra Arts Festival in 1999.

Concert performances include the Bach Passion’s, Handel's Messiah and Saul and Orff's Carmina Burana with the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, Queensland Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras and the Canberra Choral Society. Matthew performed Hits of Hollywood with the QSO under Tommy Tyco and has recorded and performed for ABC Classic FM.

He has been a recipient of the Elder Scholarship, the National Liederfest Scholarship, the Lady Galleghan Encouragement Award and twice winner of the Gold Medal at Royal South Street in Ballarat. He has twice been a finalist in the Herald Sun Aria and won the Rhone Poulenc Award for mastery of French Style at the City of Melbourne Song Recital Award.

In 1999 Matthew performed a solo recital at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and participated in a masterclass with Brigitte Fassbaender at Wigmore Hall in London.
