Australian conductor Gerald Krug is a graduate of the conducting class at the Paris Conservatoire National and Igor Markevitch's Master Class at the Salzburg Mozarteum. After graduation, he played as a deputy in many of the major London orchestras, before taking up his first position as a repetiteur and conductor at the StadtTheater Biel Switzerland. Gerald's career has encompassed Symphony, Opera, and Ballet performances in equal measure, and includes academic appointments as Senior Lecturer at the State Conservatorium of Music Sydney, and Guest Lectureships at the University of Western Australia. He has also been Artist in Residence at The University of Melbourne, conducting Opera and Symphony Concerts, as well as lecturing in conducting. In Australia he has conducted the orchestras of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart in both symphony concerts and opera and has also recorded for the ABC, Polygram Records and RCA. Gerald Krug has held the position of Musical Director of the Western Australian Opera, and the WA Arts Orchestra. Other operatic appointments include Musical Director of the New Zealand Opera, Resident Conductor of the Israeli National Opera, and Resident Conductor of Opera Australia, for which he conducted 25 operas. International artists for whom he has conducted include Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti and the new Wagner star, Jane Eaglen. Gerald Krug was associate conductor for the Spoleto Opera tour of Porgy and Bess, and has also appeared as a guest Conductor for the State Opera of South Australia at the Adelaide Festival. Amongst other positions, Gerald Krug has been Musical Director of the Australian Ballet including an International Tour, Musical Director for Dame Margot Fonteyn, and Guest Conductor for The Royal Ballet on tour. Gerald Krug has conducted a series of performances with David Helfgott, the subject of the Academy Award winning film Shine. Other more recent engagements have included a special Gala 'Night in Vienna' with the Perth Symphony Orchestra — an all Mozart concert in Sydney and a series of Concerts with the Symphony Orchestra in Durban, South Africa. |
