Francesco began his professional singing career in 1981 with the Victoria State Opera.
He has performed principle operatic roles from children’s operas through to grand operas; these roles include Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Marcello in La Bohème, Schaunard in La Bohème, Dumas in Andrea Chenier, Ein Perukenmacher in Ariadne auf Naxos, Dancairo in Carmen, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, Il Commissario in Madame Butterfly, Hermann in Tales of Hoffman, as well as a wide range of Music Theatre Concerts, corporate concerts and vocal recitals and numerous understudy roles in opera.
Francesco has performed with numerous opera companies including Opera Australia, Victoria State Opera, Opera Queensland, The Australian Pops Orchestra, Victorian Arts Centre Trust, A.B.C. Television and Radio, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Music Festival, Melbourne Spoleto Festival, The Three Choirs, Intervarsity Choir Festival, Music Theatre Australia, Mozart by Moonlight, Eventure Productions, Ashton-Smith Singers and Encore Productions. Corporate companies Francesco has performed for include Crown Casino, BHP, Amcor Ltd., Weight Watchers, and numerous medical companies.
Francesco's vocal awards include Melbourne Sun-Aria, Winston Churchill Fellowship Award, Armstrong-Martin Scholarship (part of the Australian singing competitions), Armstead Scholarship, Geelong Operatic Aria Award, Bendigo Operatic Aria Award, Ringwood Operatic Aria Award, Footscray Operatic Award as well as many other Art, Ballad, Lieder, and Musical Comedy vocal awards.
As a winner of these vocal awards, Francesco has been able to study with eminent voice coaches in Italy, U.S.A. and London. These include Maestro Fernando Bandera, David Harper and William Eddy.
