A singer of "persuasiveness and versatility" is how The Age's Clive O'Connell has described Judith. Equally at home in the fields of opera, oratorio, art song, early and contemporary music, she performs regularly in and around Melboume. Her early musical experiences centred around the Canberra School of Music, where she gained her B.Mus with Distinction. Following her graduation, she spent a year studying in London before relocating to Vienna for further study and professional engagements. These included participation in the Salzburg and Graz festivals and a number of recordings with Nikolaus Harnoncourt where she honed her musical skills as a member of the critically acclaimed Arnold Schönberg Chor and Concentus Vocalis Wien. She also sang in a production of Die Fledermaus which toured Israel with the Israel Philharmonic and performed with NeuOper Wien. Since returning to Australia she has completed a Masters degree in performance from the University of Melbourne, studying with Merlyn Quaife and was selected as one of five outstanding performers to tour Thailand and Singapore in 1997 as a "Young Soloist of the University of Melbourne". She has been a featured soloist in many major works including Mozart's Requiem and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, and was a semi-finalist in last year's City of Melbourne Song Recital Award. Her operatic roles have included Ottavia (Il Coronazione di Poppea), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così Fan Tutte) and the Lightbearer (The Quickening by Johanna Selleck). She has also participated in the Australian National Academy of Music's Advanced Performers Program. |
