David Brennan, Director
David Brennan has been a resident principal with Opera Australia since 1987. His roles for that company include Alfio in
Cavalleria Rusticana, Ping in Turandot, Coppelius and Schlemil in
The Tales of Hoffman, Escamillo, Dancairo and Zuniga in Carmen, Don Alfonso in
Cosí fan Tutte, Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, The Traveller in
Death in Venice, Albert in Werther, Falke in Die Fledermaus, Enrico in
Lucia di Lammermoor, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, The Juror in The Eighth
Wonder, Ford in Falstaff, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly and the title role in
Don Giovanni.
Mr. Brennan has sung for all the major opera companies in Australia. Among the highlights were some thirty roles with SA opera including Count di Luna in
Il Trovatore, Pizzaro in Fidelio, The four Villains in Tales of
Hoffman, Ford in Falstaff and the title role in Don Giovanni. Other memorable roles include The Herald in
Lohengrin and the Police Agent in The Consul for Victoria State Opera; Count Almaviva in
The Marriage of Figaro, Ford in Falstaff and the title role in Nabucco for Western Australia Opera and Schaunard in
La
Bohème and Silvio in Pagliacci for Queensland Opera. This last role he also performed with Melbourne's Globe opera in the mid-eighties. Other roles for Globe include Valentine in
Faust and Escamillo in Carmen.
Mr. Brennan's video appearances for Opera Australia include La Traviata, Turandot, The Merry Widow and Die Fledermaus.
